Career & Qualifications

Ragnar Horn (born 1961) is the Chairman of Taconic AS, and lives between New York, Oslo and London with his wife and three children.

Educated at Norway’s Cavalry Officer Candidate School between 1980 and 1982, Horn developed extensive management skills as a Second Lieutenant in the reconnaissance division. In 1982, Horn moved to America, where he studied for his Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Williams College, Massachusetts. Horn was a varsity cross-country skier during his time at Williams College, and he graduated in 1985 with honours. From 1985 to 1987, Horn worked as an Analyst at Merrill Lynch Capital Markets in New York, before embarking on his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Harvard Business School.

Horn was an Associate at Credit Suisse First Boston Corporation in New York, before becoming the Vice President at Mortimer Scott Associates (also in New York). In 1995, Horn returned to Norway, taking the position of Chairman at Taconic AS.

Taconic AS is a private family-owned investment company that has holdings and investments in international shipping and real estate within Norway. Horn gained experience in the world of international shipping during his time working for RS Platou ASA, the shipbrokerage firm that was founded in 1936 by Horn’s grandfather, Ragnar Platou. During his time with RS Platou ASA, Horn worked for four years in the company’s Singapore office, before the company was merged with Clarksons PLC.

As a result of his time in both New York and Singapore, Horn has gained several professional qualifications, including his series 7 SEC broker licence, becoming a Registered Representative with both the National Association of Securities Dealers and the New York Stock Exchange, and passing his CMFAS exams.

Ragnar Horn is on the boards of several not-for-profit organisations; he is also a Board Director for several private companies, such as Eiendomsspar AS and Victoria Eiendom AS, and Berner Gruppen AS.

As well as his work and support of charities and philanthropic organisations, Horn enjoys golf, hiking and skiing; he was a Division 1 Nordic cross-country racer, and is currently ranked in the top 10 for his age range in the ski marathons that he regularly participates in across Europe.
